Dr. Phalen grew up in Colorado and earned her B.A. in psychology at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in 2015. She attended graduate school at Arizona State University, where she earned her M.S. in psychology in 2018, her J.D. in 2019, and her Ph.D. in Psychology and Law in 2023. She joined the faculty at the University of Wyoming in Fall of 2023.
Broadly speaking, she takes a social and cognitive approach to studying decision-making in the law. More specifically, she is studying the ways in which gender, expressed emotions, and emotionally evocative evidence influences legal decision-making.

Graduate Students
Alexey Mazon, B.S.
PhD Student
Alexey was raised in Fresno, California. In 2023, she graduated with an honors B.S. in forensic behavioral sciences, an honors B.A. in psychology, and a certificate in victim services from Fresno State. Alexey is currently a graduate student in the Psychology and Law Ph.D. program. Her research interests include jury decision-making, mock juror perception, race, and gender. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, and watching Twilight.
Conner Ryan, B.S.
PhD Student
Conner is originally from Emporia, Kansas. In 2023, he earned his B.S. in psychology from Emporia State University. After a year in the Experimental Psychology program at Emporia State University, Conner transferred to the University of Wyoming and is currently a student in the Psychology and Law Ph.D. program. Broadly, Conner’s research interests include jury decision-making, perceptions of witnesses, and memory processes for both jurors and eyewitnesses. Outside of school, he enjoys unwinding with friends and family, watching bad movies, and listening to music.
